I sat in the lobby bar of the Intercontinental Wellington nursing a negroni and waiting for Los Angeles Times food writer and columnist Jonathan Gold to join me. That morning I had read an article on Stuff by Sarah Catherall that quoted Gold as saying, "There seems to be a lot of British comfort food, circa 1968". The thought that an influencer such as Gold might take that opinion of New Zealand food and share it with his global audience played heavily on my mind.
