5 myths about organic gardening

MYTH 1: COMPANION PLANTING

Plenty of gardeners, books and websites will tell you that planting marigolds among tomatoes will deter whiteflies and kill root-feeding nematode worms. But I have never seen any evidence or scientific studies to support this.

Whiteflies are tough little devils and are resistant to most insecticides so I can't see a whitefly raising an eyebrow (if it had one) at a whiff of marigold.
