Looking out through the window, from a bed in Auckland Hospital, Peter McConnell watched his ship sail away.
Peter, 76, and his wife Donna had been preparing to head away on a "trip of a lifetime" Pacific cruise taking in Fiji, Easter Island, The Falkland Islands and South America, when he suffered a serious stroke.
He faced a long recovery, and there would be no joining the ship in a foreign port.
The trip hadn't been cheap, but the couple got $53,000 because the pair had bought travel insurance from Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI) at the time they booked their tickets.
