The guilt, sadness and financial loss for families when someone enters aged care

The change from being fully independent to needing fulltime care was very quick for the beloved mother of financial adviser Susanna Stuart.

"She was in her late 80s and was suffering from poor hearing and Alzheimer's, getting her pills mixed up and on one occasion starting a fire," Stuart told clients in her monthly newsletter.

At the time she was living with Stuart, which is the traditional Chinese way of caring for family elders, but it couldn't last, and when the tipping point came, it happened fast.

"Mum's future life was being decided upon over 10 fraught days. It felt too rushed, the options seemed too limited and we had no real road map to guide us," Stuart said.
