Grand Designs UK reveal: Architect's own home voted RIBA House of the Year

Every year, Grand Designs guru Kevin McCloud showcases the shortlist of houses for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) House of the Year award. And then he does the grand reveal on his show.

And this year, the House of the Year award went to architect Richard Murphy for his own family home in Edinburgh.

Murphy's house is a light-filled modern home built in an established neighbourhood of terrace houses. The judging panel describes its a "delightful essay in architecture".

"It speaks to its context with direct references to the Georgian terraces, and with a clever change of scale that is at once deferential and powerfully striking in the street."
