When Christine Allen met her husband, John Tobin, 10 years ago, her finances were a mess.
She was in her 20s, earning good money as a journalist รข€“ and happily spending most of it on shoes. "I still have clothes from years ago with the tags still on them," she says. "But at the time I had to have them."
But Tobin had been a dedicated saver since he was in his teens. When their relationship became serious and they decided to pool their finances, Allen had a reality check.
