Lazy summer lake days are all very well and glorious but sometimes David Randell secretly covets rain at Lake Rotoiti, near Rotorua in the central North Island.
On soggy nights, he'll lie in the small bach bedroom, listening for his favourite roof patter and the distinctive gush of the swollen Otaramarae stream rushing past the bach to the lake.
The creek, which runs along the southern boundary of the Randell section, was a minor selling point amid the string of features that drew David and his wife Anne to the property.
The water access for boats and swimmers, the rustic interiors and an overgrown boat shed all had a hand in charming the couple and their three adult children.
