The house Rebecca Lovell-Smith shares with her husband, Christian Carruthers, and their son, Jim, in the Christchurch port suburb of Lyttelton is not a regular house. In its past life, the three-storey 1960s building was home to the Union Shipping Company's offices. The trio now inhabit the third floor of the building - a large, open plan space with bedrooms directly off it and a ladder to a roof garden.
