A well-designed outdoor lighting plan should create mood as well as safe illumination, says landscape designer Erin Farrow.
Many designers suggest trying to mimic the amount of light intensity given off by a full moon. It should be strong enough to make beautiful shadows, and have some intense highlights, as well as to illuminate steps and corners, but not so strong as to make you feel as if you are indoors.
