The first in our "Let's move to" series, we look at Mangakino, a place where you can still buy a do-up home for under $100,000. Located on the shores of Lake Maraetai and close to the national cycle trail, Mangakino (population 1050) is a perfect spot for lovers of outdoor adventure – but if you're looking for a well-paid local job, you're likely to struggle. Originally built as a settlement to house dam and power station workers during the 1940s, Mangakino was meant to be a temporary settlement, but this year it celebrates 70 years.
