Student couple tow tiny house from Nelson to Christchurch

A tiny house university students Christoph Riedel and Anna Naygrow spent their summer holiday building for themselves near Nelson is now on the move.

Riedel and Naygrow hooked up their 7.6m by 2.4m near-completed creation to the Land Rover Discovery they bought specially and began the 400km journey to their Christchurch destination overnight Wednesday. The couple intend to make the journey over two nights, hoping to arrive in the Garden City on Friday morning where they have rented a plot of land for their tiny house with power and water supplies.

They aim to live in their dinky wee home on its Christchurch plot while Riedel completes his fourth and final year of a bachelor of forestry science degree at the University of Canterbury.

Riedel, from Nelson, and Naygrow, originally of Northern California, were prompted to build the tiny house after becoming fed up with living in a cold, damp, mouldy student flat last year. They secured a favourable loan from Riedel's Nelson-based parents and stated building the tiny house in mid-November on flat land at Menzshed Waimea in Richmond.
