Spring blossoms are at their peak in many parts of the country right now.
Christchurch photographer Juliet Nicholas, who photographs gardens for NZ House & Garden, and took some of the photos here, says a cloudy day is the best for close-up photos of blossoms. The subtlety of the delicate petals is better photographed in soft light, not bright sunshine.
Blue sky days are better for photographing a wider view of a whole blossom tree or an avenue of trees. A vibrant sky (or dark background such as a fence) provides contrast and makes the blossom stand out.
